11.5.1 Session Expiry
If you have not performed any actions in the system (e.g. read a document, moved to a different folder or
edited a description) for a moderate length of time (often 30 minutes but this depends on the server you are using), the system will log you out
automatically. This is a safety measure to ensure that another user cannot impersonate you and access your documents.
After you have been logged out automatically, you will be prompted to reauthenticate yourself - returned to the log in page - the next time you try to perform any action in the system. The system will inform you that your session has been timed out.
If you have been logged out by the system, the next time you log in you will be returned to the last page you tried to access. This ensures that your work is not interrupted by having to navigate through folders to find the documents you need - all you have to do is log back in.
11.5.2 Repeated Log in
If you attempt to log in to a Business Collaborator server from two computers at once, your original
session will be automatically logged out. This is another useful aid to security - the system assumes that
you cannot be in two places at once and so accepts the second authenticated log in as an indication that
you no longer require the first session.
Similarly, if you try to log in to a Business Collaborator server from two different browsers at once - for
instance Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator - your initial session will be logged out
automatically.
It is, however, perfectly OK to have several browser windows of the same type (e.g. Internet Explorer) open
at once on the same computer and logged in to the same server. For instance, if you open the help pages, a
new browser window will appear displaying the contents of the help pages whilst the page from which you
requested help remains visible in the original window.
