18.1 Introduction

The Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) package within Business Collaborator enables databases to be created on, or linked to, a backend SQL (Structured Query Language) database. All data processing can take place on the back end database with formatting and output handled by the template system controlled from within Business Collaborator

The backend databases you have access to will depend upon those we have given specific support for and the configuration of the Business Collaborator server. When you choose to add an ODBC connection you will be given a drop-down list with the databases available to you listed. For more information please contact your Business Collaborator server administrator.

The ODBC package is presently aimed at the developer with experience of SQL database development coupled with HTML and JavaScript experience. Unlike the relational database toolkit that has been available since version 3.6, this new tool is not currently designed for the average end user.
