19.2 Viewing documents using Brava!

19.2.1 Brava! setup
19.2.2 Viewing documents

19.2.1 Brava! setup

(Instructions for users of Internet Explorer 5.X running MS Windows)
When you first try to view documents using Brava!, there will be a short pause following which you will be prompted to install Brava! In most cases, the Brava! client-side viewer will attempt to install itself permanently on your computer and you will be prompted once asking if you wish to install and run Brava!. You should answer "Yes" to this if you wish to use Brava!.

Alternatively, if your web browser's security settings prohibit the permanent installation of Brava! on your machine you may still be able to use it by installing the viewer on a per-session basis. If you are unable to install Brava! permanently, you will be warned. If this is the case then click "OK" and click on where it says "click here" in the subsequent web page. This will then try to install Brava! on a per-session basis.

When installing Brava! on a per-session basis you will be prompted twice and should respond "Yes" to both.

19.2.2 Viewing documents

Clicking on the name of a file opens it - downloads it to a temporary location on your local computer, locates and opens the appropriate local application and displays the document's contents.

In order to view a document using Brava!, click on   |  View and Markup   for the document. (If you do not have sufficient access rights to create or store markups, the action available to you will be   |  View with Brava  .)
The Brava! application will open, either within your web browser or in a separate browser window. A small window will then appear stating that the first page is being opened and, after a short while (depending on the speed of your connection) the first page will be viewable.

If neither   |  View with Brava   or   |  View and Markup   is displayed, viewing with Brava! may well not be available for objects of this format (MIME type). For instance, viewing with Brava! may be enabled for AutoCAD drawings in DWF and DWG format but not for other document formats. You should confirm this with your Business Collaborator systems administrator.

Whilst viewing the document, a number of actions are accessible from the Brava! toolbar. Detailed information on all Brava! functionality can be obtained by clicking on Help Contents... in the standard Brava! toolbar to view Brava!'s help.

A summary of the main functionality, accessible via the icons on the standard Brava! toolbar, is given here:

  • Markup File - gives access to existing markups or permits the creation of new ones - see section 19.3.
  • Quick Print - print the file
  • Zoom Extents - changes the view so that the full image is visible in the window.
  • Zoom - permits zooming in or out of selected areas of the image.
  • Zoom Width - changes the zoom level so that the entire width of the image appears in the window.
  • Pan - allows you to move around within a zoomed image.
  • Monochrome - changes all lines of a colour image to a single colour (and toggles to 'color' to return to a multicoloured view).
  • Set Visible Layers - allows different image layers (e.g. of a CAD drawing) to be turned off and on.
  • Calibrate - enables 3 alternative measuring tools once calibration has been performed.
  • Rotate - rotates the image through multiples of 90 degrees.

To return to a Business Collaborator folder view, click on the link to the desired folder in the location bar (see section 2.2.2 and Figure 19.2-1).

Note that viewing a document using Brava! registers a Read event (see section 4.7.2) on the document in the same way as opening it using a local application.
