2.4 Changing documents
In order to change a document which is stored in Business Collaborator, you need to take a copy of it onto your local computer, make changes to it using the appropriate application and then replace the shared document stored in Business Collaborator. In versions of Business Collaborator before version 4.7, it was necessary to do this manually by following the procedure below.
-
Right mouse click on the document and choose "Save Target as..." (or "Save Link As...")
-
Save the document to a directory on your local computer.
-
Change the document on your local computer, using an appropriate application.
-
Once you have completed your changes, locate the original Business Collaborator document and choose to revise or replace it.
The alternative method of editing a document's contents, available in Business Collaborator version 4.7, is equivalent to this but somewhat simplified:
-
Click on
| Edit to open up the application (e.g. MS Word) which you normally use to edit this kind of document.
-
When you have finished editing the document, save the document or close the application and you will be prompted to save the document back to Business Collaborator.
This method is equivalent to the manual method described above but is more intuitive to use, especially for new users. Because this technology uses ActiveX, it can only be used by users of Internet Explorer browsers and Windows operating systems. It is described more fully in section 3.3. Manual replacement of documents is described in more detail in section 6.3.
You should remember that both of these methods leave a local copy of the document on your computer. However, the definitive document, which everybody else has access to, is the one stored in Business Collaborator.

Note 1
-
Downloading a document means taking a copy of the document from the server and putting it on your local machine. When you read, view or display a document or save it to disk you are downloading it. The opposite is uploading a document to the server from your machine - described in section 2.5.
-
Note 2
-
To edit a document, you will need to have the appropriate application installed on your local computer. For instance, to edit a Word document, you will need to have a suitable version of MS Word installed.
